![]() I wonder what walking on the water of our own experience in Christ means? In other words, what sets us apart with God in sharper relief as an individual in hot pursuit of Him; seeking that maximized abundant life God promises and daring to do so extravagantly? Peter asked God the Son to invite him into a deeper experience. It separated him out from the other disciples and revealed how much his heart was in hot pursuit of Jesus the Christ. It was also a mark of his nature as a leader. He recognized that there was more of God and he pursued “the more”. He modeled for the other disciples. He dared to ask and was rewarded by an invitation. The scene also vividly revealed God’s desire to be pursued and asked for a greater experience. So long as Peter kept his eyes fixed upon Jesus, he walked on the water. God rewarded Peter’s audacity but required his attentiveness to not sink. God sends us to a city for a purpose. It was His original idea. He is calling us into a deeper experience with Him – one into which, sadly, most will either fear to tread or stay so mind numbed from life’s merry-go-round as to never even see Jesus bidding them come. They may even be doing “the Lord’s work”, but not at the level of what He is willing for them to achieve because they fail to connect with the fact that Jesus wants them to step away with Him in solitude just like His Father routinely had Jesus step away from the noise as well. There is always a deeper relationship with God to enjoy. Our willingness to engage in that pursuit is outcome determinative to our level of success in life. Truly, it is the very essence of our success as leaders. Do we wish to succeed maximally? He bids us pause long enough to step out of the boat and come to Him. ![]() Wes Lane President & CEO Salt and Light Leadership, Inc. (SALLT)
